There were two people that stole the show at this wedding at St. Mary’s Golf and Country Club, and neither of them were the bride or groom! The first was the bride Kalie’s grandmother, who is clearly one of Kalie’s favourite people. It’s clear from the love and respect shown to her that Grandma is the matriarch of the family. In fact, during his speech Steve joked that just because she was at their wedding didn’t mean she approved of their marriage! The other star of the show was the flower girl and best man’s daughter Sophia. She was very shy when it came time for her big moment and didn’t want to walk down the aisle to the bride and groom! Also, she got stage fright halfway down and hung out for a second to compose herself. Also, probably so that everyone could see how adorable she is.
A common theme throughout the day was family. It was clear from everybody’s speeches that the bride and groom are very loved, and very family oriented! They are the type of people that you can count on. The people that will be there for you no matter what, and that will always love you. Although Steve and Kalie are very close to a great number of people, they only a maid of honour and best man! You might think this is odd, but during the speeches they joked that it was either going to be one on each side or eleven people on each side, and no in-between! That gives you an idea of how much love was in the air on Steve and Kalie’s big day. They even got a photo with each table – and in those photos you can see just how much fun their reception was!
St. Mary’s provides a wedding day experience like no other, and I truly enjoy shooting there so much! Their amenities and small thoughtful touches definitely set them apart from the rest! It’s no secret that wedding days don’t always go smoothly. The staff at St. Mary’s is well versed in keeping things on track no matter what’s thrown at them.
Funny story: the number one piece of advice Kalie was given about her wedding day was “prepare to be hungry – you’re not going to be able to eat much”. That just did not sit right with her, and she made it her personal mission to not get hangry on her wedding day. If that isn’t relatable, I don’t know what is! Luckily, St. Mary’s GCC was there to help. Not only was there a fruit and cheese plate in the bridal suite while everyone was getting ready, but our bride was able to partake in sushi on a golf cart! Whatever was needed, St. Mary’s made it happen.
Moreover, St. Mary’s stunning grounds and reception area are another reason they are one of the most sought after wedding venues in the area. This is my favourite time of year because the sun is setting earlier, which means night photography! You’ll notice some night photos as you scroll this blog – and St. Mary’s GCC grounds are the PERFECT location for them! There’s something about the scenic pathways and rolling hills of a golf course at night that is just so romantic!
