Laura and Sean: A Dreamy Engagement Session at Goderich Beach

I had the absolute delight of capturing Laura and Sean’s engagement session at the picturesque Goderich Beach. Ok full transparency, its not quite Goderich, I have a not super secret beach shooting location just outside of Goderich. It has all the beauty of the Lake Huron shoreline, with the added bonus of rarely having more than 10 people hanging out there when I’m working. If a beach session without an audience is in your dreams, this is THE spot on Lake Huron!

But, back to Laura and Sean! Laura and Sean’s journey together began at Global Pet Foods in St. Thomas, where their paths crossed in 2019. Sean, now a co-owner of the store, was instantly smitten, while Laura took a bit longer to notice his admiration. By May 2020, their budding friendship had blossomed into a beautiful romance.

A Love Built on Shared Passions

Laura and Sean share a passion for nature and adventure. They often find relaxation in camping or Airbnb trips near provincial parks. Tobermory, Algonquin, and Pinery Provincial Park are among their favourite retreats! They love to hike, fish, and simply enjoy the outdoors. Often, with their 3 dogs in tow. Their engagement story is a testament to their love for nature. On September 18, 2023, Sean proposed to Laura in Pinery Provincial Park, on the same trail where he first asked her to be his girlfriend. As Laura searched for wildlife along the river, Sean knelt behind her, asking if she was ready to leave “Incognito mode.” With beaming smiles and joyful giggles, they embraced the next chapter of their journey together.

Laughter in Every Image

Our engagement session at Goderich Beach was a perfect reflection of their love and shared interests. Anytime I work with a couple (or families or anyone in front of the camera) we talk about posing. I will spend most of the session capturing genuine interactions and emotions together with a sprinkling of the “classic Grandma shots” You know; the ones grandma wants on the fridge where everyone is smiling and looking at the camera! But no matter which shot were getting I will always provide enough instruction to make you feel comfortable and at ease.

That was certainly the case with Laura and Sean, although I provided some guidance, it was obvious these two know how to have fun together! Laura loved twirling and dancing in her beautiful dress. While Sean was immediately ready to jump into fun poses like chasing, piggyback. They were both even game to get right in the Lake! My favourite though, is the constant grins they had on their faces as they enjoyed playing together!(Something every couple should take time to do together!)

A Sunset Glow for a Dreamy Engagement Session

Their engagement session really was filled with laughter and tender moments, reflecting their shared sense of adventure and deep bond.

As we wrapped up the session, the setting sun cast a warm glow over the Goderich Beach and Lake Huron. I am so glad we got the sunset we did! You’d never know it by these images and their never ending smiles but we did receive a wee bit of a rain sprinkle midway through their session but these two stuck it out and I am so grateful.

When planning engagement sessions we always try to schedule them for a weekday evening- and for my personal style to be at it’s peak, we usually start the session around 2 hours before sunset, giving us the perfect sun to create light airy golden hour portraits. Although I spend a great deal of time shooting at farms, barns, trails and parks I am here for the beach sessions right now and can’t wait for a few more this Summer.
