We all know I love the details of a wedding day, and Rachel and Adam’s Maple Lane Haven wedding day was full of perfect little additions. Their wedding day was one of the most tastefully DIY’d receptions I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing!
I knew long before their big day that Rachel is a DIY queen. I had the honour of photographing her sister’s wedding in 2021 and got to revel in their skills then too. The day was full of little touches that the sisters lovingly made together. She made the floral bouquets, centre pieces, and her mom even did her bridesmaids’ hair for the wedding!
Before I tell you much more about Rachel and Adam, I must tell you what an absolute honour it was to photograph this particular wedding. In 2021 when I photographed Rachel’s sister’s wedding, Rachel mentioned to me what an enjoyable time she’d had. She told me that someday when she got engaged, she would love for me to photograph her wedding as well.
Hearing such a heartfelt compliment is always humbling and makes me feel amazing. But then to have a couple follow up and choose me out of all the incredible photographers in our region is truly such an honour! I am so happy to tell you all about their wedding day at Maple Lane Haven.
Rachel and Adam chose to tie the knot at the incredible Maple Lane Haven Wedding and Event venue in Brussels, Ontario. The perfectly manicured landscaping and rockwork provided the backdrop for their personal ceremony. Adam, in typical form for him, chose not to write his own vows but instead spoke from the cuff in the moment. He spoke of his deep love for Rachel as his friend, partner, and the mother to their 10-month-old daughter. Despite his spontaneity, his words were heartfelt and beautiful, leaving not a dry eye in the crowd.
Using the incredible grounds of Maple Lane Haven for our photography following the ceremony was a breeze. With so many different photography locations, including an actual waterfall, wooded spaces, and farmland to choose from, our only challenge was running out of time.
Rachel and Adam chose to complement the beautiful red barn and rustic farm feel of Maple Lane Haven with simplicity in their decor. They chose a colour scheme of red and yellow, with sunflowers and roses taking centre stage.
However, it was Rachel and Adam, along with their big hearts and their perfect little girl, who truly stole the stage. Rachel and Adam continuously ensured they shared the limelight and their love with their 10-month-old daughter, Bailey. My two favourite moments were when they made sure to grab her from Grandpa at the end of the service to walk her down the aisle in their recessional. And again, they included her in their first dance as well. It was so clear that their deep love was not only for each other as a couple but for their entire family unit.
Speaking of their first dance, remember that Rachel’s sister, Robyn got married in 2021? If you haven’t connected the dots yet, Robyn and Neil married in the midst of a lockdown. Therefore their wedding was a backyard affair with only a few close friends and family.
Rachel, being the big-hearted sister she is, chose again to share the stage and gifted Robyn and Neil with their true first dance. She even went so far as sneakily confirming the song they had originally planned to dance to.
It was these and so many other small things that show the true nature of Rachel and Adam. Two kind-hearted and giving people who just wanted to share their love with those they cherish.
I hope you enjoy scrolling through this magical day.
