I had such a wonderful time shooting Martha and Jonathon’s beach engagement session with their two young boys, I knew their wedding in Kincardine would be just as great! The ceremony was at St. Anthony’s Church in Kincardine, and I think the photo I took from the upper balcony is one of my favourite shots of the day. The photos on the beach are a close second!
This wedding was a total family affair, and it was so lovely. Martha’s sister Ysabel is a wedding planning professional and she helped to plan the big day, and the reception was held at the restaurant owned by Jon’s family. The bride and groom’s two sons were there as well, looking so dapper in their little suits! Their older boy fell asleep during the ceremony, but all the other guests were riveted. The ceremony was so full of love and so special, how could we not be?
Jon’s family is big, blended and totally beautiful! They get along so well and made the whole event so fun. Martha’s family is from the Philippines and they found so many ways to put touches of home into Martha and Jon’s big day. I think the food was my favourite – specifically the desserts! I’ve never had such tasty treats.
There were many things that were unique about this wedding, but two favourites stick out to me. First, the vintage car that the bride and groom made their exit in was an absolutely STUNNING piece of machinery. Secondly, Martha had a “Man of Honour” instead of a “Maid of Honour”! Her best friend David stood by her side as she married the love of her life, and I absolutely loved it!
Martha will be the first to tell you that she had given up on getting married until she met Jon, and Jon will be the first to tell you that his timing for proposals is less than ideal! The first time he proposed – yes first! – Martha was in labour with their first son. Right idea, wrong execution! She may or may not have had other things on her mind at that exact moment. Proposals two and three were also at inopportune times, and proposal four was the one that stuck!
Jon enlisted the help of his mom and son to help create the perfect proposal. After a date at a favourite local restaurant, Jonathon gave the ring box to their son so he could be a part of the big moment. They say that life happens when you’re busy making other plans and that couldn’t be more true here: Jon’s little wingman ran away with the ring box! Of course Martha had no idea he had the ring and – rightly so – was completely focused on getting her son back! As they chased after their little one, Jonathon stopped Martha in front of a fountain, got down on one knee and asked her to spend forever with him. They finally got the ring back and celebrated as a family!
That sweet story is just one of my favourite ways Martha and Jon’s relationship is so special, and in my mind it’s proof that they are meant to be together. I mean you have to be a pretty perfect match to do the proposal four times!
I hope you enjoy scrolling this wedding as much as I enjoyed shooting it!
