Yes, you read that right – a Star Wars themed Wedding in Milton! How freaking awesome is that?! Zoey and Marc celebrated their marriage at Piper’s Health Golf Club in Milton, ON. It’s an absolutely stunning venue that doesn’t have the traditional “golf course feel” at all. It’s full of rolling hills that pretty much hide you from the golfers and make you feel like you’re the only ones on the property. Just what you want on your wedding day! The staff, food and scenery at the golf course in Milton were all just amazing, 10/10. They even had a 400 year old tree on their property that made for some amazing photos!
Now when I say this wedding was Star Wars themed, I mean it! Not only were Marc and Zoey legally married on May 4th (literally Star Wars Day), they used a hockey jersey from Marc’s beer league hockey team that they hung on a life size Storm Trooper for their guestbook, and the Star Wars movies played in the background for the entire reception. They also made a game out of that the entire night, they played mostly theme songs from televisions and movies and you had to guess them! SO fun!
I first met Zoey two years ago when I was the photographer for one of her bridesmaids! Katherine and Michael were married at the Butterfly Conservatory in 2021. You can scroll their Winter wedding here! When I met Zoey I was immediately struck by how sweet kind she is to everyone she meets, and that opinion still holds true two years later! Furthermore, their wedding was simply so THEM – sweet, quirky and fun! However, I think my favourite part was the favours. Zoey went to the University of Guelph, and she got natural honey from their arboretum for her favours!
They looked amazing at all the place settings, and major points for having a favour that people will actually use. I am all for the consumable wedding favour! My other favourite part was the way Zoey and Marc decided to lay out their wedding day. We had over an hour and a half just for portraits, which was incredible! We had so much fun roaming the property in Milton, and I already mentioned the 400 year old tree, so keep your eyes peeled for that while you’re scrolling!
Zoey is Chinese and Marc’s background is Scottish, they both chose to honour their heritage and culture in many ways through their day! Marc was wearing a kilt which was a first for me. I didn’t think anything of it until I went to ask him to do my favourite pose (if you’re one of my grooms you know – hand in the pocket and thumb out!). When he showed me his lack of pockets my brain had a buffering moment, but nevertheless we got some amazing posed shots if I do say so myself! Also if you look closely at his outfit, you’ll notice his tie is in fact, not tartan but a beautiful red Chinese pattern as a nod to Zoey’s culture. Zoey chose a number of beautiful accessories that also nodded to her heritage.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – my favourite thing in the world is when my couples (and parents for family/newborn shoots) make it their own. Doing things your own way and having elements like a life size Storm Trooper is what is going to make you want to relive your day over and over again! And, if I’ve done my job right, you can do that by looking at the images we capture during our work together. The biggest thing I see people regret when it comes to planning their wedding? Worrying about what other people will think, or thinking you have to do things a certain way because it’s “tradition” even though it doesn’t mean anything to you. Your wedding day is about YOU. Your love, your relationship, your life! Make it your own, I promise you won’t regret it!
