When I tell you this wedding at Ground Effects Landscapes Special Events Centre was one of the most heartfelt and FUN parties I have ever been involved in, I need you to understand how much I mean it! Matt and Cassandra’s wedding day was a celebration filled to the brim with laughs, personal touches and love. There wasn’t a moment of the day that didn’t have laughs, hugs or happy tears!
Cass and Matt met when they were at Lambton College both studying firefighting. They started online messaging after noticing that they were both from the same town. Their first in person meeting was by chance, and it’s a hilarious story! Cass was walking with a friend and talking. Unbeknownst to her the friend was no longer beside her, but Cass kept talking! She walked into the room where Matt was still talking to nobody! They started talking to each other instead, and the rest is history.
Volunteer Firefighting is a huge part of the couple’s daily life, and that was evident on their wedding day! Not only did the couple pose with their gear and make their ceremony exit on an antique fire truck, but they had their guests do something super unique instead of glass clinking to get them to kiss! Cass’ Dad built a custom fire hydrant with their last name on it as a keepsake and turned it into a ring toss game! Toss a ring on the hydrant to get the couple to kiss. It was beyond adorable, and I couldn’t resist tossing a ring of my own on there!
The couple managed to work their love of their shared career in subtle ways too. Their colour scheme was black and red, and I don’t think it was a coincidence! Not only was it chic and trendy but it fit the theme so well.
It always really gets to me when a groom is able to let himself feel all the emotions that come with getting married. While Matt was looking into Cassandra’s eyes and said “You’re the 212 to my 221” (referencing their firefighting numbers) there was not a dry eye in the house! The raw sentiments and special touches to passed on loved ones made for one of the most heartfelt weddings I have ever witnessed. One of their groomsmen unfortunately passed on before their wedding, and it is so incredibly special to see how big of a place he has in their hearts.
The ceremony was full of touching details like that, but also hilarious ones! They had flower ladies instead of flower girls. The couples grandmas walked down the aisle distributing flower petals, and they absolutely nailed it! Another hilarious addition to their ceremony: the beer man! A friend of the couples walked down the aisle distributing cold cans of Bud Light to thirsty guests, and a couple of thirsty groomsmen too!
One of the other huge things that stood out to me on this day was just how much love surrounds Cassandra and Matt. Here’s one of my favourite examples: the man that provided the antique fire truck for their exit also gave Cass a special surprise. After the ceremony, he changed the name on her firefighter gear to her new last name and she had no idea!
