Kevin and Melissa’s intimate destination wedding in Mexico at the Grand Sunset Princess in Playa Del Carmen was quite literally, what dreams are made of! It was a laid back and intimate affair. There were 25 guests in attendance and a good friend of the couple and the bride’s brother were the witnesses. Due to the setting, a lot of the guests were able to speak at the reception, and it was so lovely to hear all the different kind words and perspectives. It was a priority to the couple that both they and their guests would be relaxed and have fun. A destination wedding is a surefire way to guarantee that!
The wedding day activities were calm and on brand for a vacation – everyone hung out in the pool until noon and then the bride got ready in her suite with her sister in law in time for the sunset ceremony. Also, I have to say that was my favourite part of this project. It was absolutely incredible to get to know everyone so well over the course of the week! it really added an extra layer of fun and intimacy to the wedding. For example, Melissa’s brother and sister in law got married recently and it was so fun to see how close knit the two couples are. Also, Melissa’s grandmother was able to make the trip down and she was the best ring bearer I’ve ever seen!
The fact that we were so far from home didn’t stop Melissa from being a traditional bride! Thanks to her mother and a close family friend, she managed to have her somethings old, new, borrowed and blue. Her something old was the gorgeous gold pinkie finger ring you’ll see photographed below. Her something blue was a garter, and her something borrowed was the pendant on her bouquet. It belonged to the grandmother of a very close family friend, and went back generations! Kevin has three kids, and he mentioned in his vows how grateful he is for Melissa’s love for and relationship with them. As a Mom myself it really struck a chord and brought on some strong emotions!
Kevin and Melissa met a few years back at Melissa’s family business, The Boathouse in Stratford. Kevin and the kids took frequent trips to the establishment for ice cream! Fast forward a couple years and now they’re renovating their 100 year old field stone farmhouse in Stratford. If you’ve ever taken on a project like that you know that it’s a testament to how strong they are as a couple! It’s not for the faint of heart. Their love for each other is obvious and shone through all week. They are so in love, they just HAD to sneak in a kiss before they signed their paperwork before the officiant gave the okay!
