When Kevin and Melissa asked to have their engagement session on their farm in Stratford, I was immediately excited! You know that I love farm life, and Kevin and Melissa’s farmhouse is 200 years old as well! They are also city kids that moved to the country, so we bonded over the troubles and triumphs of that life pretty quickly. They also did renovations that are very similar to changes we made in our own home, and it was so fun to talk about that together as well!
Kevin’s kids were THRILLED to be included in the session, but the pets not so much! The family has three cats and a dog, but their cat Panda was the only one that wanted to come out and play. The rest hid from us and played camera shy! Getting a good variety of family photos was very important to Kevin and Melissa, and getting to do it on their property was so special! We took photos at their smokehouse and even got to stop at their apple orchard for an apple break mid-session! We got super lucky with the warm and sunny weekend weather and fall foliage background too.
Bonus funny story: when Kevin and Melissa were purchasing and renovating their home they were digging through the city archives. They found a hilarious photo of one of the first families to own the house posing in front of it. Now this was 200 years ago mind you, so none of the family was smiling or even touching one another! When they told me about it I knew that we absolutely HAD to recreate it. Check out the last photo in the scroll for our updated version of the antique photo!
Kevin and Melissa are getting married in Mexico next month, at the Grand Sunset Princess in Maya Riviera Mexico. This is another reason that getting to take the family photos on the family farm was so important and special! The couple had their heart set on getting married on their property, but the renovations weren’t done in time so they had to pivot their plans. I am so honored they chose me to capture their big day, and so excited to work with them in paradise! Destination weddings are SO unique and beautiful! You can get some very unique shots in the different setting. You can’t beat tying the knot on white sand with the blue ocean in the background, while being surrounded by your family and friends. It turns your wedding day into a wedding week, and extends the festivities!
Side note: betcha didn’t know I did destination weddings! It’s a bit of a more custom package that has some finer details to iron out, but it’s definitely something I love doing! If you’re getting married next year and are planning a destination wedding, I’d love to hear from you! You can drop me a line with all the details here.
